Bonfires

No bonfires please

There has been an increase in bonfires as people clear out their houses and gardens. Unfortunately, we are not able to ban all bonfires even temporarily, as having a bonfire is not against the law. Our key messages around this are:

  • Be considerate of your neighbours and don’t light bonfires to dispose of waste.
  • The coronavirus is known to cause serious respiratory problems, which could be made much worse if the sufferer is exposed to smoke from bonfires.
  • Bonfires can also become out of control or cause accidents, creating extra pressure on the already busy emergency services.
  • If you are affected regularly by smoke in your home and/or garden you can report this – more information.
